Privacy Policy for
Seedling Reader Premium
This policy covers the paid Android edition, package com.seedling.reader.premium. Premium remains local-first but adds optional Google Account sync, book transfer, AI meanings, integrations and official-purchase verification.
1. Overview
Reader Premium processes your library and reading activity primarily on your device. Network features are optional and are activated only when you use them or enable their background operation.
Reader Premium does not send your books, highlights or reading history to Teknoble as part of ordinary reading. Cloud sync goes to your authorized Google account; AI text goes to the provider you configure; Premium verification sends only licensing/integrity data needed to validate the app.
2. Local information
- Everything described in the Seedling Reader privacy policy: library metadata, progress, bookmarks, highlights, notes, quotes, Word Bank, settings, caches and thumbnails.
- Study data, spaced-repetition state, reading goals and reading-insight records when those features are used.
- OCR results and ink-annotation records associated with supported documents.
- Google account connection state, selected account email/profile information needed to identify the connected account, sync configuration, device records, transfer status and recovery metadata.
- AI provider choice, model choice and API key configuration. The app's secure-key path uses Android Keystore protection for sensitive keys where available.
- Locally cached, cryptographically verified Premium entitlement information used between required online checks.
3. Google Account synchronization
Google sync is optional. The app requests drive.appdata, OpenID, email and profile scopes for private synchronization state and account identification. If you enable original-book synchronization, it additionally requests drive.file so it can create and manage the book files used by Reader without requesting broad access to all of My Drive.
Depending on your settings, synchronized data can include reading position/state, highlights, notes, quotes, Word Bank, bookmarks, colors/tags, Reader preferences, device records and recovery snapshots. Original book files are synchronized only when you choose a book-sync mode that includes them.
You can choose book synchronization Off, Selected books or All eligible books, then further control hidden/excluded books, transfer folders, Wi-Fi-only behavior, charging-only background transfer, file-size limits and storage limits.
4. Sync encryption and recovery
Reading data and recovery snapshots can be protected with end-to-end encryption using a sync password shared only across your devices. Original book files remain ordinary files in Reader's private Google Drive area so your own Drive account remains the storage provider.
Disconnecting Google stops future synchronization while preserving local data. The app also provides a cloud-data deletion control for Reader's private sync state. Restoring a recovery snapshot creates new local revisions rather than silently deleting original book files.
5. AI meanings and translation
AI features are optional. When you request an AI meaning or another provider-backed text operation, the selected word, phrase or necessary surrounding text may be sent directly to the AI provider you configured. The current app includes provider endpoints for OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Cohere, Mistral, Groq, OpenRouter, DeepSeek, xAI, Perplexity, Together AI, Fireworks AI, Hugging Face, NVIDIA NIM, Z.ai and Ollama Cloud.
Teknoble does not operate those AI services. Each provider processes requests under its own terms and privacy policy. Avoid sending sensitive book passages or personal notes to an AI provider unless you are comfortable with that provider's data practices.
6. Readwise and Zotero
If you configure a supported integration, Reader Premium may send the knowledge records you choose or the records required by the configured sync workflow to Readwise or Zotero. Connection credentials and local integration state are stored so the app can continue or disconnect that workflow. Those services handle received information under their own terms.
7. Premium license and Play Integrity verification
The Play-distributed Premium build can use Google Play Integrity and a Teknoble entitlement service to validate the official installation and paid capability mask. Verification can include package/version information, request identifiers/timestamps, opaque device-binding data, integrity tokens and cryptographic request data.
The licensing request does not require your book files, highlights, notes, Word Bank, OCR text or reading history. The licensing service and network infrastructure may process normal security logs and connection metadata such as IP address and timing.
8. Selling and sharing
Teknoble does not sell your reading data. Information is transmitted to another service only for a feature you choose or a security/licensing function needed to operate Premium—for example Google sync, an AI provider, Readwise/Zotero, dictionary downloads, or Play Integrity verification.
9. Retention, disconnect and deletion
Local data remains until you delete it, clear app data or uninstall the app. Google sync state remains in your Google account until removed through Reader's cloud-data controls or Google account controls. Original book files synchronized through Drive remain subject to the book-sync and Drive deletion controls you use. AI/integration providers retain submitted data according to their own policies.
10. Security
Reader Premium uses Android sandboxing, HTTPS, Android Keystore-backed secret handling where available, cryptographic Premium entitlement verification, Google authorization, and optional end-to-end encryption for synchronized reading state. Cleartext network traffic is disabled in the current application configuration.
11. Children
Reader Premium is a general-purpose reading and study utility and is not specifically directed to children under 13. It does not contain a behavioral advertising system.
12. Changes
This policy may change as Premium features, providers, synchronization architecture or legal requirements change. Material changes will update the effective date above.
